High Pressure Phenolic Laminates: Canvas, Linen & Paper Based
High-pressure phenolic laminates, originally invented by Dr. Leo Baekeland in 1907 as Bakelite, are industrial thermoset plastic materials valued for their high temperature resistance and diverse mechanical and electrical properties. These laminates are categorized by their base materials, such as paper, canvas, or linen impregnated with phenolic resin, or glass woven fabric with epoxy resin for G-10/FR4 grades. Specific types like G-10/FR4 offer extremely high mechanical strength and good dielectric loss properties, making them suitable for a century of applications including circuit boards, relays, and motor housings.

This high temperature resistant material has been used in numerous applications for over 100 years. Other laminate trade names: Phenolic, Micarta®, Phenolfab®, Phenolkraft®, Ryertex®, Garolite®, Spauldite® and Texolite®.
