Plastic Sheet Supplier Near Me: The Benefits of Local

Plastic Sheet Supplier Near Me: The Benefits of Local

Why choose a local Performance Plastic Sheet Supplier

One of the latest trends across many different industries has been the push for supporting local businesses, especially with the events of the pandemic in recent years. However, this isn’t just a trend–choosing to source your plastic from a local plastic sheet supplier is also an excellent and beneficial economic opportunity. There are plenty of advantages to why you should buy your plastic sheets from a local supplier.

Less waste–in time, money, and resources

Choosing to source your plastic from a local supplier means that you not only will support the local economy, but you also often get to bypass many of the expenses associated with importing and exporting international goods. In addition, there are fewer transportation costs, with a local supplier being closer geographically than another supplier might be.

A closer geographical location to you also means that you’ll receive much shorter lead times on your quotes. With less distance to travel, you can receive your plastic sheets much more quickly than if you don’t source them locally.

Improved Environmental Impact

With reduced transportation comes less environmental impact. This doesn’t just mean less harmful emissions into the atmosphere, but also less use of resources, especially nonrenewable ones like fuel. Less fuel consumption doesn’t just promote the efficient use of resources–it also tends to lead to lower transportation costs as well! Shorter distance–less costs and a smaller carbon footprint.

Better Control over Product and Quality

Often, local plastic suppliers provide much better product quality and customer service, because they take the time to understand the needs and preferences of their customers. The proximity of choosing a local supplier also helps to ensure a timely delivery, reducing the potential for disruptions on your project. They’ll also likely be more available and efficient when serving local customers, able to offer quicker lead times based on the shorter geographical distance.

This insures the best quality materials and timely replenishment of popular items.

Finding a Quality Performance Plastic Sheet Supplier

Finding a Quality Performance Plastic Sheet Supplier

Best Methods for Choosing a Quality Performance Plastic Sheet and Rod Supplier

Finding a plastic sheet supplier might seem like a monumental task with all the different suppliers out there – but there are a few ways that you can narrow down your choices.

Here are five key factors to consider when you’re looking for a quality supplier of plastic sheets.

1) Where do they source their plastic materials?

With many dozen manufacturers through out North America, and many more in far off lands, it is important to know who makes your material. Material sources from North America has been considered the premier quality in Performance Plastic materials. Not only is the quality of extruded or molded sheets and rods important, but also the long process of secondary annealing. This removes residual stress from the material, and this will produce a better finished part with reduced warp and twist and even center-line cracking. Not only should the materials look good, they must machine well without cracking. Quality matters.

2) Do they carry what you need?

This might seem straightforward, but it is one of the most important things to keep in mind, especially if you’re looking for large-scale products or highly specialized resins. Often, different plastic suppliers will specialize in resins with similar end uses as well, so it’s important that you find one that understands the requirements of your particular industry. Many suppliers are actually ‘brokers’ and don’t really have a warehouse with material ‘in stock’. Look for a supplier that has a wide variety of quality performance plastics in stock and ready for you to pick up.

3) Do they meet your quality standards?

Many plastic suppliers have to meet particular certifications and regulatory compliance standards, especially if they want to maintain a professional and accurate business. The bare minimum for a quality plastic sheet supplier is an updated ISO 9001 quality management system and ITAR compliance, but there are several other standards and material certifications available as well, such as ANSI and RoHS compliance, which ensure that the supplier does not sell or consume unethical products in the course of their business. Are the customer service staff members certified by an outside agency?

4) Don’t forget communication and customer service

Good communication is important in any supplier-customer relationship. A quality plastic sheet supplier will communicate professionally and quickly with you, and they will be transparent about their products, quality certifications and compliance, and their capabilities. Many suppliers have reviews or testimonials on their websites that you can read to get a better idea of their service–or you can contact them directly as well. The best customer service companies have trained staff, in the plastic industry one of the keys to a trained staff would be are they IAPD (International Association of Plastic Distribution) certified?

5) Balance quality and price

Huge in stock inventory of Performance Plastic Rod

With all of the plastic suppliers out there, it’s important to find one that not only meets your standards of quality, but also offers you competitive pricing. Balancing the quality of the material you receive with the budget set out for it is an important task when choosing a plastic supplier. Sourcing all High Performance Plastic materials from North American manufactures helps to insure quality products, and at a competitive price. While not the cheapest, the quality of North American Performance Plastic is second to none!

StarBoard/Sunboard UV – HDPE

thick-white-plastic-sheet

StarBoard®/Sunboard UV – HDPE

Excellent resistance to UV – Sunlight, excellent for outdoor applications

Sunboard™ and StarBoard® are our UV-stabilized HDPE manufactured and designed for outdoor and marine applications, offering exceptional performance in direct sunlight. The beauty of this product is that does not crack, stain, peel, rot, swell or absorb water like other materials.

In addition, the color will not fade and will stay vibrant for years to come under direct sunlight and exposure to outdoor weather conditions. It is also mildew resistant and graffiti resistant. In essence, after installations, it requires zero maintenance.

StarBoard®/Sunboard™ also is easy to work with using standard woodworking tools. As with all Polyethylene materials, it is soft enough to form smooth curves and bends (however, may require heat in thicker gauges). Unlike wood, this material has no grain and it will not splinter which is a plus for woodworking craftsmen.

Ship Captains like this material because of its durability to withstand the harsh UV rays reflected by the ocean. StarBoard® and Sunboard™ are used in outdoor furniture, so using this material for tables, stools, or benches would be ideal.

Why you should use StarBoard®/Sunboard-UV HDPE:

  • UV stable
  • Does not crack
  • Mildew and moisture resistant
  • Does not delaminate
  • Easily machined
  • Does not splinter, rot, or swell
  • Never needs painting

PVC – Poly Vinyl Chloride

PVC Type I, PVC Type II, Clear PVC and CPVC

Type 1 Gray PVC Sheet (Rigid Poly Vinyl Chloride)

Rigid Vinyl products offer an excellent blend of physical properties, low cost, and ease of fabrication.

Use in the corrosion resistant markets extensively. Most familiar as household sprinkler pipe, but a workhorse in the industrial market in large sheet and rod. Most common trade names : Boltaron®, Simona®, Geon®, Vintec®, Corazan® and others.

PVC sheet and rod materials can be chemically glued together (think PVC pipe and fittings), but also in larger applications PVC is heat welded together, similar to Polypropylene and Polyethylene materials.

Type I and Type II PVC Differences

Type I has a high corrosion resistance and normal impact properties.

Type II is a high impact modified formula with low chemical resistance.

Here at Industrial Plastic Supply we generally stock a wide variety of PVC Type I material.

PVC Type 1 is a very chemical resistant performance plastic that out performs most other low cost materials.
