1 What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 PVC?

Type 1 PVC has high corrosion resistance and normal impact properties. Type 2 is a high-impact modified formula with lower chemical resistance, available in white or light gray. Industrial Plastic Supply primarily stocks Type 1 Gray.

2 What sizes does PVC sheet come in?

Standard PVC sheet is 48" x 96" in thicknesses from .060" to 3.0" (Type 1 available up to 4.0"). Cut-to-size is available.

3 What diameters does PVC rod come in?

PVC rod is available from .250" to 12" diameter in lengths up to 120". Gehr NSF-certified rod is available from .250" to 8.0" diameter. Rods above 3" diameter are available in 60" lengths.

4 Is PVC sheet NSF certified for food and water contact?

Gehr PVC Type 1 rod is NSF 14, NSF 51, and NSF 61 listed, making it suitable for food equipment, drinking water systems, pump and valve components, and water meter housings.

5 What flame rating does PVC sheet carry?

PVC sheet carries a UL 94 V-0 flame rating and a flame spread under 20 per ASTM-E 84, making it self-extinguishing and fire retardant.

6 Can PVC sheet and rod be bonded or welded?

Yes. PVC can be bonded with chemical cements (similar to PVC pipe fittings) or heat welded, similar to polypropylene and polyethylene. It also bonds to wood, paper, fabrics, and other plastics.

7 What is CPVC and how does it differ from standard PVC?

CPVC (Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride), also known as Corzan or Lam 2000, offers higher continuous temperature resistance than standard PVC. It has a blue-tinted clear color and is available in an FM4910 approved grade for semiconductor and cleanroom applications.

8 What is the ASTM standard for Type 1 PVC?

Type 1 Gray PVC conforms to ASTM D-1784-99 Class 12454-B (formerly Type 1 Grade 1).
